We're not still in the old days of MsDOS, fortunately, where each and every application program came with its own set of drivers.
If the problem lies with your printer driver, then Prime would be about the only application that uses a very specific feature of your printer.
I think it is more likely that there is a problem with Prime, while it using your printer driver through Windows.
However, it's good that you have a workaround for the problem.
